A new wave of tension has gripped the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State after some dissatisfied members of the State Working Committee announced the suspension of prominent party figures believed to be aligned with former Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.
The aggrieved faction held an emergency meeting in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday, where they unanimously agreed to suspend several executives of the ADC State Working Committee.
Those affected include State Chairman Bala Sufiyanu, Deputy Chairman Junaidu Mudi, and Secretary Hawwa’u Muhammed. Abdulrazaq Isah was appointed as the interim State Chairman, while Adamu Aliyu assumed the role of State Secretary.
Speaking to the press after the meeting, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Jamilu Muhammed, urged the public to avoid dealing with the suspended leaders until further notice. He accused them of abandoning the party’s guiding principles, failing to embrace inclusive leadership, and making critical decisions without consulting other executives.

“We were left with no option but to suspend Engr. Bala Sufiyanu and his associates, for several reasons,” Jamilu said. “They have been taking unilateral decisions and, on numerous occasions, have conducted official party activities and made critical decisions without consultation or input from other executive members.”
Reacting to the development, Bala, backed by the Malami Movement, accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of deliberately instigating unrest within the ADC. In a signed statement, he described the APC’s actions as “desperate” and aimed at discrediting both the ADC and Malami.
Bala alleged that the APC was behind an upcoming press conference set for August 12, 2025, in Kebbi State, which he claimed was designed to create division and challenge Malami’s legitimate membership in the ADC.
“The sole purpose of this event is to create disunity, factionalize the ADC, and cast baseless doubts on Malami’s standing within the party,” the statement read.
Bala’s camp accused the APC of trying to destabilize the ADC due to its declining popularity and inability to fulfill its promises, describing Malami as a highly respected legal luminary and devoted son of Kebbi State whose values align with those of the party.
