Nigerian singer, actor, and politician Olubankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W, has added another remarkable milestone to his illustrious career: he earned a master’s degree in policy management from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.

The multi-talented star announced the achievement in a heartfelt Instagram post on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, reflecting on the challenges and triumphs of a transformative period in his life

In his post, Banky W described the past few years as a “stretching season” for himself and his family, marked by academic rigor, professional commitments, and the joy of welcoming his second son, Hezekiah Oluwadarasimi Wellington, with his wife, actress Adesua Etomi-Wellington.

The artist-turned-scholar balanced the demands of a full-time master’s program, parenting two young children, and serving as a Fellow on Capitol Hill, all while living in the United States. He attributed his success to faith, resilience, and the unwavering support of family, friends, and mentors.

Faith gives you the courage, resilience, and power to redefine endings. Banky W wrote. “What many may see as the finish line of a journey can become the starting point of the next chapter of your story.” His words resonated with fans and followers, serving as both a personal reflection and a message of inspiration to others pursuing their dreams.

Banky W’s journey to this milestone has been anything but conventional. Rising to fame as a pioneer of Nigeria’s modern Afrobeats scene with hits like Ebutte Metta and Strong Thing, he transitioned into acting and later politics, advocating for youth empowerment and good governance.

His decision to pursue higher education abroad reflects a broader vision to equip himself with the tools to effect meaningful change. “I’m proud and grateful to have earned this degree,” he wrote, emphasizing the challenges of managing his academic and familial responsibilities simultaneously.

The birth of his second son, Hezekiah, added a layer of complexity and joy to his time in Washington, D.C. “Parenting two children in the US while earning a full-time master’s and serving as a fellow on Capitol Hill all at the same time was completely exhausting,” he admitted.

He credited divine grace and the support of his loved ones for carrying him through. Particularly his wife, Adesua, a celebrated actress known for her roles in films like The Wedding Party, who has been a steadfast partner in this chapter of their lives.

The announcement was met with an outpouring of congratulations from fans, colleagues, and public figures across Nigeria and beyond. Social media platforms buzzed with praise for Banky W’s ability to juggle multiple roles—musician, actor, politician, student, and father—while maintaining his signature humility and grace.

“This is what resilience looks like,” one follower commented on Instagram. Banky W is proof that you can redefine your story at any stage of life.
