A former Deputy Governor of Kano State and immediate past Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo, on Tuesday held a closed-door meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima in Abuja as political consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum.
Also present at the meeting were former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and the member representing Bichi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Abba Abubakar Kabir Bichi.
According to reports, discussions during the meeting focused on political developments in Kano North Senatorial District and broader strategic affairs within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State.
The development was disclosed by Gwarzo in a post shared on his verified Facebook page shortly after the meeting.
“Today, together with the former Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and the member representing Bichi Federal Constituency, Abba Abubakar Kabir Bichi, we met with the Vice President of Nigeria, His Excellency Kashim Shettima,” he stated.
He further revealed that the meeting centred on political consultations regarding Kano North.
“We discussed politics and political affairs in Kano North, and he wished us success and prosperity in our political journey,” Gwarzo added.
The meeting comes only days after Gwarzo was screened as an aspirant for the Kano North Senatorial District seat under the APC, fueling fresh speculation over the unfolding political permutations within the zone.

Kano North remains one of the most influential political blocs in Kano State and is expected to play a critical role in shaping the APC’s strategy ahead of the 2027 polls.
The district boasts several high-profile political figures, including Deputy Senate President Senator Barau Jibrin, former governor Abdullahi Ganduje, newly inaugurated Deputy Governor Murtala Sule Garo, Abba Abubakar Kabir Bichi, and Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo.
The senatorial seat is currently occupied by Senator Barau Jibrin, who is widely expected to seek re-election in 2027.
The latest meeting is seen as part of ongoing consultations and internal alignments aimed at managing competing interests and building consensus within the Kano APC.
The political atmosphere in Kano North has become increasingly dynamic in recent weeks following the withdrawal of another senatorial aspirant, Dr Mahmoud Baba Bichi, from the race.
His withdrawal reportedly followed interventions linked to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who was said to have stepped in to preserve party unity and avoid internal divisions ahead of the election cycle.
The closed-door engagement with Shettima is expected to further shape discussions around the political future of Kano North as stakeholders continue consultations ahead of the next general elections.
