Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has reacted to speculations about a possible defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying any decision on his political future would be guided by the wishes of the people of the state.

The governor made this known while speaking with journalists amid growing rumours that he was planning to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling APC.

Fintiri said politics is mainly about serving the people, stressing that he would not oppose any decision supported by the majority of Adamawa residents.

“There are a lot of rumours about whether I will defect to the APC or not. If that is the wish of my people, I will not object because politics is all about the people,” he said.

The governor also criticised individuals he described as “political merchants” for allegedly spreading tension and speculation about his political direction.

According to him, such individuals are driven by fear and personal interests rather than the collective good of the people.

“There are people making noise, political merchants, who are treacherous and afraid. I am coming with value, prosperity, and strength to add to wherever we are going,” Fintiri stated.

He further explained that his administration has built strong grassroots connections through development projects, infrastructure expansion, and investments in human capital across the state.

Fintiri maintained that his government’s achievements have improved security and strengthened public trust.

“Adamawa is secure because we have built organic connections through development and infrastructure, particularly in human capital. If my people say I should stay, I will stay and I will win,” he added.

The governor stressed that his administration’s performance and delivery of democratic dividends would determine its political future.

He reiterated that governance and service delivery remain his major priorities, regardless of political affiliations.

“Wherever we go, the most important thing is that we have delivered, and we are going to win,” Fintiri said.
