The Independent National Electoral Commission has released the timetable for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

The announcement was made on Friday in Abuja by the Chairman of the commission, Prof. Joash Amupitan, during a press briefing.

According to the schedule, Nigerians will vote for the President and members of the National Assembly on February 20, 2027.

Elections for governors and members of the State Houses of Assembly will take place two weeks later on March 6, 2027.

Earlier on February 4, the electoral body had revealed that it had completed work on the full timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 polls.

This came despite the delay in the amendment of the Electoral Act, which is still being considered by the National Assembly.

INEC stated at the time that it had already submitted its proposals to lawmakers.

However, it admitted that some parts of the timetable could be affected depending on when the amended Electoral Act is eventually passed.

In previous years, under the leadership of Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the commission had also set general election dates for many years ahead.

The move was aimed at reducing tension among voters and helping the commission and other stakeholders plan better for future elections.

More details are expected to be released by the commission in due course.
