Nollywood actress Annie Idibia has moved to quash growing speculation that she has reconciled with her estranged husband, Afrobeats star Innocent “2Baba” Idibia, calling out what she described as recycled footage being passed off as new.
The rumor mill went into overdrive on Friday, July 17, after an old video began making the rounds on Instagram, TikTok, X, and WhatsApp status updates, showing the former couple in an unmistakably affectionate moment, dancing, cuddling, and, according to some accounts, kissing at a nightclub.
The footage spread rapidly across blogs and entertainment pages, reaching millions of viewers within hours, many of whom saw it without any context about when it was actually filmed.
Predictably, captions suggesting the pair had quietly patched things up did the rest of the work, and the clip snowballed into one of the weekend’s biggest entertainment talking points.
By Monday, Annie had had enough. Taking to her Instagram Stories, the actress pushed back firmly against the narrative, writing, “Old videos circulating everywhere, false news everywhere.”
It was a terse but pointed dismissal, and she followed it up with a second move clearly designed to remove any doubt, posting a fresh video to her Instagram page carrying a visible date stamp, an apparent attempt to draw a clear line between the old nightclub footage and her present reality.
Eagle-eyed followers also noted that her hairstyle in the new clip differed from the one seen in the video that had gone viral, further evidence, in the court of social media, that the two clips were not from the same period.
Fans seemed to get the message. Comments under the post ranged from amused to admiring, with one follower joking about Annie including the current date “for the gullible ones carrying fake news,” and another dubbing her a “queen” for shutting the rumor down without excess drama.
The speculation didn’t stop there, however. A separate, unverified clip also circulated in which a woman purported to be Annie spoke about having reconciled with her ex after being “misled,” a claim Kemi Filani News reported alongside Annie’s Instagram Stories denial, suggesting the actress was simultaneously fighting off more than one strand of misinformation over the weekend.
Annie and 2Baba, who share two daughters, announced the end of their marriage in January 2025 after more than a decade together, a split that came after years of intense public scrutiny of their relationship, including previous instances of Annie speaking candidly about emotional strain within the marriage.
Since the split, 2Baba has moved on and is now married to Edo State lawmaker Natasha Osawaru, while Annie has repeatedly stressed, including a widely discussed moment on stage where she introduced herself by her maiden name, Annie Macaulay, rather than Idibia, that she now considers herself single and is raising her children on her own terms.
For now, both the video and Annie’s rebuttal remain the subject of active discussion online, with the actress’s date-stamped clip doing more to settle the matter for her fanbase than words alone might have.
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
The 2Baba–Annie Idibia “reunion” was never real; it was an old nightclub video recirculating out of context.
Annie shut the rumors down herself, backing her denial with a date-stamped video to prove the footage was outdated. The two remain separated: 2Baba is now married to Natasha Osawaru, and Annie maintains she is single and moving forward on her own terms.
