Tobi Amusan, the world record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, delivered one of her most remarkable performances of the season at the 2025 Diamond League meet in Paris, finishing second with an impressive time of 12.24 seconds.

The race, one of the most competitive of the year, saw Amusan push herself to her limits, clocking her second-fastest time ever—only behind her world-record mark of 12.12 seconds set in 2022.

Amusan, who represents Nigeria, surged strongly in the closing metres of the race, nearly catching American Grace Stark, who had dominated the early stages with an explosive start.

Stark held off the late charge from Amusan to win in a personal best and meet record time of 12.21 seconds. Her performance elevated her to fifth on the all-time list of fastest women over the 100m hurdles.

Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent also ran a phenomenal race, crossing the line in 12.30 seconds to finish third, underlining the depth of talent in the high-stakes showdown on the Paris track.

The meet marked another highlight in Amusan’s 2025 campaign, which has seen her rebound from a slow start to the season. She had initially placed fourth in her first two Diamond League appearances in Xiamen and Shaoxing, China. But the 28-year-old reignited her form in May, winning the Rabat leg of the series with a time of 12.45 seconds, a performance that doubled as a meet record and her first win of the season.

In Paris, Amusan faced a formidable lineup, including global stars such as Keni Harrison of the United States, who has held world medal positions in the past; Ackera Nugent, a rising star from Jamaica; Pia Skrzyszowska of Poland; Nadine Visser from the Netherlands; Bahamian hurdler Devynne Charlton; and Stark, who now leads the Diamond League standings.

Against this star-studded field, Amusan demonstrated not just elite athleticism, but poise and determination, positioning herself strongly in the overall Diamond League rankings. She now sits fourth with 10 points as the battle intensifies for a coveted spot in the Diamond League finals in Zurich later this year.

Her return to form is timely, as the season edges closer to major championship meets where the world’s best will collide for titles and prestige. Amusan, a former world champion herself, appears to be peaking at the right time, setting herself up as one of the top contenders going forward.
