Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has taken a bold step to reposition Kano Pillars Football Club by overhauling its management board and naming former Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, as the club’s new General Manager.
The announcement was made on Friday through a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, who said the decision followed broad-based consultations with football stakeholders.
The move comes as part of a larger strategy to elevate the club’s profile and performance ahead of the upcoming 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

The outgoing board’s one-year term recently concluded, and though the team finished the previous NPFL season in a respectable ninth position, Governor Yusuf opted for a reconstitution to build on that momentum. While many members of the previous board were retained, several new faces were added with the intent of injecting renewed energy and strengthening the club’s operational structure.
The newly formed 17-member board will be chaired by Ali Muhammad Umar (popularly known as Nayara). The lineup includes several respected figures in local football circles, such as Salisu Mohammed Kosawa, Yusuf Danladi (nicknamed Andy Cole), Idris Malikawa Garu, Nasiru Bello, and Muhammad Ibrahim (Hassan West). Other members named include Hamza Abdulkarim Audi Chara, Muhammad Danjuma Gwarzo, Mustapha Usman Darma, Umar Dankura, Ahmad Musbahu, Gambo Salisu Shuaibu Kura, Rabiu Abdullahi, Aminu Ma’alesh, and Safiyanu Abdu. The roles of Abubakar Isah Dandago Yamalash and Ismail Abba Tangalash as Media Directors I and II, respectively, remain unchanged.
However, the appointment of Ahmed Musa stands out as the most strategic and high-profile inclusion. The former Super Eagles captain, who played in top European clubs and enjoyed a stellar international career, brings a wealth of experience and global football exposure to the club.

Musa previously played for Kano Pillars early in his career and also had a short return stint during a break in his European career, making him a familiar and inspirational figure within the club.
Governor Yusuf, in expressing his confidence in the revamped leadership, emphasized that the new direction is aimed at restoring Kano Pillars to their rightful place in Nigerian football.
“The inclusion of Ahmed Musa reflects our desire to blend administrative competence with football experience. We believe his presence will inspire players, attract investment, and rekindle supporters’ enthusiasm,” the statement from the governor’s office said.
Supporters and analysts alike see this move as a timely and ambitious shift for the club, one that may help Kano Pillars once again challenge for domestic titles and possibly return to the continental stage.
