Bomb explosion kills Nigerian soldiers
About eight Nigerian soldiers were reportedly killed after a military convoy carrying supplies struck an improvised explosive device (IED) believed to have been planted by fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Borno State.
According to Sahara Reporters, the incident happened as troops attached to the 24 Task Force Brigade in Dikwa were returning to their base from Maiduguri after escorting food items and other military supplies.
The convoy was travelling along the route when the explosion occurred.
According to information from military sources, the first vehicle in the convoy, a gun truck carrying soldiers, drove over the explosive device.
The blast destroyed the vehicle and the soldiers on board were said to have died at the scene.
The death toll was at about eight personnel.
As of the time the incident became public, the identities and ranks of the soldiers who lost their lives had not been officially released.
The latest attack adds to a series of deadly incidents involving military convoys in Borno State.
Insurgent groups have continued to target security personnel by planting roadside explosives along routes frequently used to transport troops, food, fuel and other logistics.
In June, three soldiers lost their lives while several others were injured after a military vehicle hit an IED on the Marte–Dikwa road, one of the major supply routes in the state.
A similar attack was also recorded in April 2025 when armed terrorists ambushed a military convoy in the Dikwa area.
At least four soldiers were killed during that attack, while two military trucks were set on fire.
