Davido Reveals Plans to Break Into Acting

Afrobeats megastar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has confirmed long-rumoured ambitions to expand his creative empire beyond music, disclosing plans to transition into acting while ramping up behind-the-scenes work in film production.

The 33-year-old “OBO” hitmaker made the revelation in a candid interview that has been condensed for clarity as part of VIBE’s “Q” interview series, a wide-ranging conversation that touched on his career milestones, personal losses, and creative evolution.

Asked about a personal goal he has yet to accomplish despite being 15 years into his music career and remaining the most-followed African artist, Davido didn’t hesitate.

“I want to get into movies. I want to start acting soon,” he said, revealing that he is already executive producing two movies this year alongside his director, Dammy Twitch. He added that a documentary project he described as “very, very big” is also in the pipeline and set for release soon.

This isn’t the first time the singer has teased a pivot toward the screen. At a panel session during the 2025 Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) in Lagos, Davido had already expressed interest in taking on an unexpected or spontaneous acting role, at one point joking that he’d want a part shot as though captured by “a taxi driver or something out of the blue.”

He credited his growing fascination with cinema to his admiration for artists like 50 Cent, who successfully crossed over from music into film and television production.

His film ambitions have also surfaced in other recent conversations. In an April 2025 sit-down with Apple Music’s Ebro Darden, Davido spoke about touring plans alongside his growing slate of film projects, describing himself as an executive producer on a movie and a series with his director.

Separately, he has also discussed an upcoming Netflix docu-series in an interview with Esquire Middle East, suggesting the documentary he referenced in the VIBE interview may be tied to that project.

Despite the pull toward film, Davido was quick to stress that music remains his first love and primary calling. “God has blessed me with an amazing career and fans. I wouldn’t ask for another type of career,” he said, framing his interest in acting not as an exit from music but as an extension of the same creative restlessness that has defined his sound.

He likened the evolution of music to that of technology constantly shifting, never static. “There’s always a new sound, a new creative idea and a new way to tell your story,” he noted, suggesting his foray into film is simply another chapter in that ongoing evolution rather than a departure from it.

With two film projects already in production and a documentary reportedly nearing release, industry watchers will be looking to see whether Davido’s on-screen ambitions materialize into an actual acting role in the near future and whether, like contemporaries such as 50 Cent, he can successfully parlay music superstardom into a lasting footprint in film and television.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

Davido is done just teasing the idea he’s actively executive-producing two films and a major documentary and now says acting is next on his list. It’s not a pivot away from music, but an expansion of it: for Davido, music and film are both just different ways of telling a story, and he intends to keep doing both.
