Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has approved the payment of a 13th-month salary bonus for civil servants in the state.
The governor announced the approval on Wednesday during the Dinner and Award Night held in Asaba as part of activities marking the 2026 Public Service Week celebration.
The announcement was welcomed with loud applause from civil servants and other guests who attended the event.
Governor Oborevwori said the 13th-month salary bonus is aimed at rewarding the dedication, commitment and hard work of civil servants who have continued to contribute to the growth and development of Delta State through the public service.
According to him, the bonus is also expected to improve the welfare of workers and encourage them to remain committed to their duties.
With the approval, Oborevwori becomes the first governor in Delta State to introduce a 13th-month salary bonus for civil servants.
The 2026 Public Service Week was organised to celebrate public servants and recognise the important role they play in implementing government programmes and providing essential services to residents across the state.
Meanwhile, the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has disclosed that the Federal Government is planning to review workers’ salaries.
According to Gbajabiamila, the ₦70,000 minimum wage approved by the administration of President Bola Tinubu in 2024 no longer reflects the current economic realities in the country.
