Alhassan Ado Doguwa has dismissed viral allegations linking him to drug use after an online video sparked widespread speculation over a blue coloration seen on his tongue during a public appearance.

The former Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, who represents Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency in Kano State, addressed the controversy in a clarification video delivered in Hausa language, insisting that the claims circulating online were false and politically motivated.

According to him, what was misinterpreted in the viral footage was not drugs or pills, but a sweet he had in his mouth at the time of the appearance.

Doguwa described the allegations as a deliberate attempt by political opponents to tarnish his image and misrepresent what actually happened during the event.

“It is the work of the devil and my political enemies that claimed I was taking drugs or pills; what I had in my mouth was sweet blue candy,” he said.

The controversy emerged after a short video clip began circulating widely across social media platforms, showing the lawmaker speaking at a public function with a visible blue tint on his tongue.

The clip quickly triggered intense online debate, with users offering different interpretations of what they observed, while others questioned the authenticity of the explanations being shared.

Some social media users speculated about possible drug use, while others defended the lawmaker, suggesting the colour could be from sweets or other harmless items.

The lawmaker, however, maintained that the narrative was intentionally fabricated to damage his political reputation.

Alhassan Ado Doguwa has been a prominent political figure in Kano politics for years and has previously attracted public attention over his outspoken political style and personal life.

The viral nature of the clip highlights how quickly political figures can become subjects of online controversy, especially in cases where short videos are shared without full context.

As of now, the video continues to circulate online, though reactions remain divided between those who accept his explanation and those who remain skeptical.

What you should know

Alhassan Ado Doguwa is a long-serving Nigerian lawmaker from Kano State who has been a prominent figure in the House of Representatives.

Viral social media content involving politicians in Nigeria often spreads rapidly and can shape public perception before full context is verified. In this case, a short clip showing a blue tint on the lawmaker’s tongue led to speculation about drug use, which he has strongly denied, attributing it to candy.

Such incidents highlight the growing influence of social media in Nigerian politics, where visual content can quickly trigger controversy, misinformation, and political reactions even before official clarification is provided.
