Paris Saint-Germain have secured their fifth consecutive French Ligue 1 title after defeating RC Lens 2-0 on Wednesday.

The victory, achieved at Stade Bollaert-Delelis, confirmed PSG as champions after they opened an unassailable nine-point lead at the top of the table with just one match remaining.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring just before the half-hour mark with his 19th goal of the season, while substitute Ibrahim Mbaye added a late second to seal the title-clinching win.

The result crowned another dominant domestic campaign for coach Luis Enrique and his side.

PSG had effectively wrapped up the title race last weekend after edging Brest 1-0 to move six points clear of Lens with a vastly superior goal difference.

That meant even a Lens victory on Wednesday would not have realistically prevented the Parisians from lifting the trophy.

The triumph takes PSG’s total French league titles to a record 14, with 12 of those championships coming in the last 14 years since the club’s transformation under Qatari ownership.

The Ligue 1 crown adds to an already impressive trophy collection this season.

PSG had earlier won the UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Intercontinental Cup and French Champions Trophy.

There could be even greater success ahead as the defending European champions prepare to face Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League final in Budapest on May 30.

Victory in that match would make PSG only the second club in the modern era to win back-to-back European Cups.

Despite resting several key players, PSG controlled much of the contest.

The visitors started without regular stars including Achraf Hakimi, Nuno Mendes, Marquinhos, Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz and Warren Zaire-Emery.

Even with the rotated lineup, PSG struck first when Ousmane Dembele intercepted a clearance from Malang Sarr and set up Kvaratskhelia, who calmly controlled and finished.

Lens threatened an equaliser in the second half.

Abdallah Sima hit the post in the 74th minute, while Florian Thauvin had a goal ruled out for offside late on.

PSG eventually sealed the win in stoppage time when Mbaye struck to put the result beyond doubt.

For Lens, despite the defeat, the season still ends on a positive note.

The northern club are guaranteed second place and will return to the UEFA Champions League league phase next season for the first time since the 2023/24 campaign.

They will also face Nice in the French Cup final on May 22.

What You Should Know

PSG’s latest Ligue 1 triumph further cements their dominance in French football, with five straight titles and 14 overall championships.

Under Luis Enrique, the club has balanced domestic consistency with growing European success, putting them on course for a historic season. Their upcoming Champions League final against Arsenal could define this era of PSG dominance if they secure back-to-back European crowns.

For Lens, finishing second and qualifying for the Champions League marks significant progress, underlining their rise as one of France’s strongest challengers despite falling short of the title.
