The Senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Sunday Marshall Katung, has officially announced his intention to seek re-election in the 2027 general elections, while also backing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for second terms in office.

Katung made his declaration during a meeting with Local Government Chairmen of the All Progressives Congress from his senatorial district, held in Abuja.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Midat Joseph, the lawmaker explained that his decision to run again is rooted in his desire to build on progress already achieved and to ensure the completion of ongoing constituency projects across Southern Kaduna.

“I am seeking a second term to consolidate on the gains we have made, complete ongoing initiatives, and continue to provide quality representation to our people,” he stated.

Katung further aligned his ambition with the broader policy direction of both the federal and Kaduna State governments. He noted that the “Renewed Hope” agenda of the Tinubu administration, alongside the development framework of the Uba Sani government, requires experienced lawmakers to effectively translate policies into grassroots impact.

He called on party stakeholders to step up mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 elections, emphasising the importance of unity and strategic coordination within the party structure.

“The task before us requires unity, commitment, and strategic mobilisation. Southern Kaduna must remain firmly aligned with the APC to safeguard and expand the developmental strides already recorded,” he added.

The senator also reassured party leaders and supporters of his dedication to inclusive governance, unity, and sustained development across the eight local government areas that make up the Kaduna South Senatorial District.

Currently serving his first term in the Senate, Katung has remained actively engaged in legislative duties and constituency interventions, focusing on improving infrastructure, social services, and overall development within the district.

What you should know

Sunday Katung’s re-election declaration signals early political positioning ahead of the 2027 elections, with strong alignment to the APC leadership at both federal and state levels.

His endorsement of Tinubu and Uba Sani highlights efforts to maintain party cohesion and consolidate political influence in Southern Kaduna. The move reflects a broader trend of incumbents seeking continuity to complete ongoing projects and strengthen grassroots support.

As political activities intensify, such endorsements and declarations are expected to shape alliances, campaign strategies, and voter mobilisation across key regions in Nigeria.
