Suspected gunmen on Tuesday night carried out another deadly assault in Plateau State, killing two residents in Kuru community, located in Jos South Local Government Area.

The attackers were said to have invaded the Dabwak area, near Government Science School, Kuru, at about 10 p.m., opening fire indiscriminately and throwing the community into panic as residents scrambled for safety.

Confirming the development, the Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, described the persistent violence across Plateau communities as “one too many.”

He expressed concern over the continued loss of lives and urged security agencies to take decisive action to safeguard residents and bring those responsible to justice.

Plateau attack

A local resident, Dangwang Elisha, recounted that the attackers struck under the cover of darkness, forcing many people to flee their homes to avoid being caught in the violence.

He called for stronger security presence and improved intelligence efforts to prevent further attacks on vulnerable rural communities.

“We cannot continue to live in fear. Security agencies must act fast to stop these attacks and protect innocent people,” he said.

Attempts to obtain an official response from the spokesman of the Plateau State Police Command, Alfred Alabo, were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.

What you should know

The latest attack in Kuru community highlights the ongoing security challenges in Plateau State, where rural areas have repeatedly come under violent assaults.

The killing of two residents adds to growing concerns over the safety of lives and property, especially in communities with limited security presence. Stakeholders continue to call for urgent intervention, including improved intelligence gathering and rapid response by security agencies.

The recurring nature of these attacks suggests deeper security gaps that require coordinated efforts between government, local authorities, and security forces to prevent further loss of lives.
