State Assembly Speaker Dies in Egyptian Hospital

The Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman Zuru, has died in a hospital in Egypt, where he had been receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness.

Zuru passed away on Monday night after a period of ill health, according to sources close to the Kebbi State Government. Details surrounding the nature of his illness have not been made public.

The late Speaker, who represented the Zuru Constituency, was widely regarded as an experienced lawmaker and a prominent figure within the state’s legislative arm.

Reacting to the development, Idris Zuru, an aide to the governor on Communication and Strategy, described the news as shocking.

“The death of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru, came to us as a rude shock. It is a painful loss not only to Kebbi State but to the entire nation,” he said.

He added that further details would be communicated in due course, noting that the government would make an official statement and announce burial arrangements in consultation with the family.

Further announcements regarding funeral arrangements are expected from both the family and state authorities.
