The administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared Friday, April 3, and Monday, April 6, 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Easter celebration.

The announcement was made by the Federal Government of Nigeria on Wednesday through the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

In a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani, Tunji-Ojo congratulated Christians in Nigeria and across the diaspora on the occasion of Easter.

The minister urged Nigerians to embrace the virtues of selflessness, forgiveness, forbearance, and love, as demonstrated by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.

He also called on citizens to remain committed to tolerance and community spirit, stressing that such values are important for strengthening national unity.

Tunji-Ojo further reaffirmed the government’s commitment to policies that promote national rebirth, economic growth, and shared prosperity for all Nigerians.

In a related development, the minister revealed that more than 840,000 foreigners are currently staying in Nigeria beyond the validity of their visas.

Tunji-Ojo disclosed this on Tuesday during a television interview, explaining that the figure was identified through a newly improved immigration tracking system.

According to him, the data indicates that irregular migration is not only about Nigerians residing abroad without proper documentation but also involves foreign nationals who remain in Nigeria after their visas have expired.

He stated that the number of visa overstayers has risen to over 840,000, involving individuals from several countries, bringing the total close to one million.
