The Chairman of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) Governing Board, Nasiru Gawuna, has resigned from his position.

Gawuna, a former All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Kano State, is reportedly preparing to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) alongside former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Sources cited by Daily Nigerian said the official defection is expected to take place on Tuesday.

In a resignation letter dated March 27, 2026, Gawuna said his decision takes immediate effect and aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive requiring political appointees to step down in compliance with the Electoral Act ahead of future elections.

“My resignation is in strict compliance with the President’s directive requiring all political appointees to step down in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act,” he stated.

Gawuna thanked President Tinubu for giving him the opportunity to serve as chairman of the FMBN governing board.

According to him, the position enabled him to contribute to the growth of the institution and national development.

He described his tenure as a privilege that allowed him to play a role in strengthening the bank’s operations and supporting housing development in Nigeria.

The former board chairman assured that he would ensure a smooth transition process by handing over responsibilities in line with established procedures.

He added that he was leaving his future plans in the hands of God.

“I place my future in the hands of Allah (SWT) while seeking divine guidance for my next steps,” he said.

Before resigning from the FMBN board, Gawuna had formally resigned from the APC, a development widely interpreted as part of the political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
