United States Congressman Riley Moore has renewed his call for the decentralisation of Nigeria’s police structure, urging authorities to empower state governments to take greater responsibility for local security.

In a post shared on X, Moore called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to intensify efforts to protect citizens, particularly in the Middle Belt region, where communities have faced persistent violence.

The lawmaker has remained vocal on Nigeria’s security situation, frequently highlighting concerns around extremism and the reported persecution of Christian communities. His position aligns with the broader policy direction associated with Donald Trump.

As part of his involvement, Moore has led investigations into the security crisis, introduced legislative measures, and called for greater accountability from Nigerian authorities.

He also spearheaded a bipartisan congressional delegation to Nigeria, where he met with victims of violence, religious leaders, and senior government officials to assess the situation firsthand.

In addition, Moore has advocated for Nigeria’s reinstatement as a Country of Particular Concern, citing allegations of widespread religious persecution. The designation was previously applied under the administration of Donald Trump on October 31, 2025.

His renewed call for state policing comes amid ongoing debates within Nigeria over decentralising security architecture as a strategy to address rising insecurity across different regions.

US Congressman Riley Moore has called for Nigeria to adopt state policing as part of efforts to tackle insecurity, especially in the Middle Belt.

He has been actively involved in raising international awareness about violence and alleged religious persecution in Nigeria. His advocacy includes investigations, legislative proposals, and diplomatic engagements.

The call for decentralisation aligns with ongoing discussions within Nigeria about restructuring security systems to improve local response and accountability.
