Nicki Minaj Files Lawsuit Against Nigerian Influencer

Nicki Minaj has escalated a social media confrontation into a full-blown legal battle, adding Nigerian influencer Dr. Penking to an existing lawsuit following what she describes as deliberate online harassment and the unauthorized use of her copyrighted material.

The dispute ignited over the weekend when Dr. Penking, a Nigerian social media personality with a considerable following on X, formerly known as Twitter, posted an old video of the Trinidadian-American rapper, accompanying it with a pointed caption that read, “Nicki Minaj should understand that she has gotten old and retire.”

The post quickly gained traction online, drawing both laughter and fierce backlash from fans of the 41-year-old artist.

Minaj, known for her fierce public persona and equally fierce defense of her brand, was swift and unsparing in her response. Rather than brushing off the comment as routine social media noise, the “Super Bass” hitmaker turned her reply into a legal notice delivered in real time, publicly questioning whether the influencer had obtained any form of authorization before circulating footage she had produced.

“Do you have permission to use this video that I filmed years ago to harass me on this or any platform? You’ve just been added to the suit,” Minaj wrote in a post that immediately went viral.

The statement confirms that an existing lawsuit, the full scope and defendants of which have not been entirely disclosed, has now been broadened to include Dr. Penking. Legal experts note that the rapper appears to be pursuing twin angles of attack: a “copyright infringement” claim, stemming from the alleged unauthorized distribution of her video content, and a “cyberbullying” claim, framing the post as a targeted attempt to demean and harass her on a public platform.

While the details of the broader litigation remain unclear at the time of publishing, the move signals that Minaj is prepared to use the courts as aggressively as she uses social media.

It also raises pressing questions about how content creators, particularly those operating across international borders, navigate the use of celebrity footage online, where the line between commentary and infringement is frequently blurred.

Dr. Penking has not issued a formal public response to the lawsuit threat at the time of this report.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

Nicki Minaj’s legal action against Dr. Penking sends a clear and resounding message: the internet is not a lawless space. Sharing someone’s copyrighted content without permission, regardless of where you are in the world, carries real legal consequences.

As the lines between social media commentary and harassment continue to blur in the digital age, this case serves as a timely reminder that celebrities and content creators alike have both the right and the tools to protect their image, their work, and their dignity, and they are increasingly willing to use them.
