Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State on Friday distributed vehicles to 40 Jumma’at Mosque imams as part of efforts by his administration to strengthen their commitment to religious responsibilities.

The governor said the gesture was aimed at enhancing the mobility of the clerics to enable them to carry out preaching and community outreach more effectively.

According to him, the state government is also building mosques and residential houses for imams, stressing that ease of movement is equally important for their work.

“Mobility is essential, especially for preaching and community engagements. That is why we have selected 40 Imams in this first phase to receive vehicles to ease their movement,” he said.

Lawal noted that Zamfara is deeply rooted in Islamic values, with imams serving communities across the 14 local government areas of the state.

He emphasised that the welfare of religious leaders remains a priority for his administration and assured that the vehicle distribution marks the first phase of a continuing programme.

The governor also appealed to the clerics to pray for sustained peace in Zamfara and across the country.

Earlier, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious Affairs, Sheikh Bello Almufty, commended Lawal’s leadership, describing him as a champion of justice and inclusive development.

He stated that the administration had positively impacted religious leaders through improved welfare packages and allowances.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Sheikh Atiku Zawiyya expressed appreciation to the governor, noting that the support would enhance the imams’ service to their communities.

He offered prayers for the governor and urged him to sustain the initiative, while the beneficiary imams pledged to continue promoting peace, unity, and moral values throughout the state.
