First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has provided a N50 million grant to Hajiya Hafsat Sani, wife of the Kaduna State governor, to support 1,000 female petty traders.

Senator Tinubu instructed the governor’s wife, who serves as the state coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), to distribute N50,000 to each beneficiary to help recapitalize their businesses. A symbolic cheque for the grant was presented yesterday at the Umaru Yar’Adua Conference Centre.

In addition, the First Lady launched the distribution of 10,000 professional kits to midwives across several states, including Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, and Kaduna. The kits, donated by a global organization, include 10,000 scrubs and 10,000 pairs of crocs.

The items were handed over to the National Primary Health Care Development Agency for distribution to midwives in the North-West region. Senator Tinubu emphasized that the initiative complements the federal government’s ongoing retraining program for 120,000 frontline health workers nationwide.

She also assured that each of the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria would receive 10,000 scrubs and 10,000 pairs of crocs, distributed among their respective states. She revealed that the North Central zone had already received its share on January 29 during her visit to Kwara State.

Speaking on the broader impact of the Renewed Hope Initiative, she stated, “Since inception in 2023, Renewed Hope Initiative has provided targeted interventions in agriculture, economic empowerment, education, health, and social investment to improve the lives of families across Nigeria.”

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, commended the First Lady’s dedication to improving the welfare of Nigerian women and supporting vulnerable communities. He highlighted the essential role midwives and nurses play, particularly at the grassroots level, stressing that their welfare must be prioritized.

“The welfare of these critical medical personnel must therefore be prioritized. We must at all times ensure that they are well-kitted and protected,” the governor stated.
