Leaders from the South-South region have praised the cordial relationship between the President of the Senate, Chief Godswill Akpabio, and the Senator representing Kogi Central, Chief Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, dismissing rumors of discord as baseless political mischief.

In a statement released on Sunday following a meeting in Calabar, the leaders condemned individuals and groups attempting to sow division between the two senators. “We know that the Senate President does not have anything against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, contrary to the insinuation of political mercenaries,” the statement read.

The South-South leaders also denounced allegations of sexual harassment and sidelining as “wicked and malicious” attempts to tarnish the image of both senators. “These smear campaigns are designed to create unnecessary tension and put the distinguished Akpoti-Uduaghan at odds with the Senate leadership,” said Chief John Harry, National Chairman of the South-South Front.

Acknowledging the positive contributions of both Akpabio and Akpoti-Uduaghan to national development, the leaders described the ongoing attacks as an “assault on our collective sensibilities.” They commended the Senate President for fostering an inclusive and peaceful atmosphere within the legislative body.

“No amount of allegations and criticisms hurled at the distinguished senators can erode their contributions to the country’s progress,” the statement emphasized.

The leaders called on Nigerians, especially those from the South-South and North Central regions, to reject divisive narratives and instead show solidarity with both Akpabio and Akpoti-Uduaghan. “The Kogi Central Senator is dedicated and fearless. No amount of blackmail, name-calling, or intimidation from fictitious groups can change the course of Akpoti-Uduaghan’s destiny,” they asserted.

Their remarks come amid speculations of tension within the Senate, with political actors allegedly attempting to exploit the situation for their own gains. However, the South-South leaders reaffirmed their confidence in both senators and urged the public to support their efforts in advancing Nigeria’s legislative and national interests.
