Popular media personality and talk show host Chinedu Ani Emmanuel, widely known as Nedu Wazobia, held a press conference in Lagos on Thursday to address a series of controversies that have recently swirled around him.
At the event, Nedu made it clear that his departure from The Honest Bunch Podcast was a personal decision rather than a termination. “Let me clarify that I wasn’t fired from The Honest Bunch Podcast. I decided to step away when the attacks became personal. So that the show can go on,” he explained.
The controversy erupted following allegations made during the podcast by comedian and reality TV star DeeOne, who claimed that social media critic Martins ‘VeryDarkMan’ Otse is gay. In response, VeryDarkMan accused Nedu of orchestrating the allegations and even went on to allege that Nedu exploited female guests on the show for his own gain.
Known for his iconic Alhaji Musa character, Nedu announced during the press conference that he would be withdrawing from public accessibility. “My job was to ask questions that would spark controversies and debates, which I successfully accomplished,” he said. Adding a note of disillusionment, he continued, “To be honest, I’m done being nice. My niceness has been taken for granted, and I’ve been abused by people who claim to be my friends. I’m tired of being used and taken advantage of. I respectfully ask that if you have my number, please delete it. I don’t want to be reachable or accessible anymore. The nice part of Nedu is dead and buried. I’m no longer going to be a nice guy; I’m done being nice.”
In addition to clarifying his podcast departure, Nedu and his management strongly refuted serious allegations of fraud and financial misconduct related to the Nedu Scholarship Foundation (NDSCHF). In a joint statement, they stressed, “Nedu Wazobia and Tokindrumz Management unequivocally refute all allegations of fraud concerning the Nedu Scholarship Foundation. All funds for the NDSCHF initiative were managed by a globally recognized social enterprise, ensuring full accountability. At no point did Nedu personally handle or control donations. Comprehensive financial documents, vendor agreements, and communications have been submitted to relevant authorities and are available for review.”
Tokindrumz Management’s Chief Operations Officer, Sarah Williams-Konha, condemned the accusations, declaring, “The accusations against Nedu are no longer just petty issues; they have crossed a line. We will not tolerate any further attacks on his character. Lawyers will be taking action, and necessary steps will be taken to address these false accusations.”
When asked about VeryDarkMan’s claims regarding Nedu’s alleged sexual exploitation of female guests on the show, both Nedu and his management declined to comment further, insisting that they would not engage with what they described as mere gossip and hearsay. Nedu also addressed rumors that he had been hospitalized, confidently stating that he is “hale and hearty.”
The press conference provided a raw glimpse into the personal toll of the controversies that have dogged Nedu’s public career. His emotional plea and decisive action to step away from public accessibility underscore a turning point for the once widely adored talk show host. While his decision marks the end of an era for fans accustomed to his unfiltered persona, it also signals his desire to reclaim his peace of mind and protect his personal well-being.
