The House of Representatives will deliberate on four tax reform bills today, February 12, 2025, following their transmission to the National Assembly by President Bola Tinubu in 2024. The bills were introduced as part of the fiscal reform agenda recommended by the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, led by Taiwo Oyedele.
Tinubu had forwarded the bills on September 3, 2024, aiming to overhaul Nigeria’s tax system by streamlining administration, reducing disputes, and enhancing revenue generation. The proposed legislation seeks to establish a clear fiscal framework for taxation, restructure the Federal Inland Revenue Service, and create a tax tribunal and ombudsman for dispute resolution.
A lawmaker privy to the development, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the bills are scheduled for debate, emphasizing their significance in Nigeria’s economic and financial landscape.
“They will be debated today,” he said.
