Idibia Family Takes Legal Action Against 2Face’s Partner as Scandal Deepens

In a dramatic escalation of what has become one of Nigeria’s most high-profile celebrity controversies, the family of legendary Afrobeats singer Innocent “2Face” Idibia has formally petitioned the Inspector General of Police with serious allegations against Natasha Osawuru, the woman currently identifying herself as the musician’s wife.

The petition, dated November 12 and obtained by multiple media outlets Thursday, paints a troubling picture of alleged misconduct spanning financial impropriety, physical violence, and potential legal violations. The document accuses Ms. Osawuru of financial misappropriation, assault, bigamy, threats to life, and substance abuse — charges that, if substantiated, could carry significant legal consequences.

The Idibia family’s appeal to Nigeria’s top law enforcement official represents an extraordinary step in what sources close to the situation describe as a desperate attempt to protect the 49-year-old music icon, whose career has spanned over two decades and made him one of Africa’s most recognizable artists.

According to the petition, family members received distressing reports directly from the singer himself, corroborated by unnamed witnesses, detailing incidents of physical assault that allegedly occurred in both Abuja and the United Kingdom. The document claims these attacks have caused not only physical harm but substantial emotional distress to the performer.

Perhaps most striking among the allegations are claims of unauthorized financial transactions. The family asserts that Ms. Osawuru transferred funds from 2Face’s bank accounts without his knowledge or consent — accusations that, if proven, could constitute fraud under Nigerian law.

The petition further alleges that Ms. Osawuru has withheld critical documents belonging to the artist, including his international passport, effectively preventing him from fulfilling professional obligations abroad. For an international performer whose livelihood depends on global mobility, such restrictions could prove financially catastrophic.

“This has exposed him to public embarrassment and potential financial setbacks,” the petition states, highlighting how the personal crisis has begun bleeding into the singer’s professional life.

The family’s concern extends beyond financial matters. The document emphasizes fears for 2Face’s “personal safety and mental wellbeing,” suggesting the situation has reached a critical juncture requiring official intervention.

Adding another layer of complexity to an already convoluted situation, the petition raises questions about the legal status of 2Face’s relationships. According to the document, the singer has not yet finalized divorce proceedings with his estranged wife, actress Annie Macauley Idibia, before Ms. Osawuru began presenting herself publicly as his new spouse.

This timing has prompted the family to request police investigation into possible violations of marriage laws, specifically bigamy — a criminal offense in Nigeria that occurs when someone enters into marriage while still legally married to another person.

“Information suggesting a possible violation of marriage laws (bigamy) and fraudulent misrepresentation, which we request to be properly investigated to establish the facts,” the petition explicitly states.

The document also references alleged substance abuse by Ms. Osawuru, claiming this has resulted in violent behavior that has compounded the singer’s emotional distress and financial losses.

The formal petition comes amid a week of increasingly public turmoil surrounding the music legend. Just days before the document surfaced, 2Face’s former managers, Kaka Igbokwe and Lori Tosan, appeared on an Instagram livestream with media personality Daddy Freeze, where they made explosive claims about Ms. Osawuru allegedly seeking “full control” over the artist’s finances and career decisions.

What happened next shocked viewers watching in real-time. The singer himself unexpectedly joined the livestream, apparently attempting to prevent his former business associates from airing what he considered private matters in such a public forum. However, the broadcast ended abruptly when, according to witnesses, Ms. Osawuru and 2Face became involved in a physical altercation — an incident that immediately went viral across Nigerian social media.

The gravity of the situation was further underscored when Hyacinth Idibia, the singer’s younger brother, took to Instagram Stories with a simple but powerful message directed at his famous sibling: “Allow us to save you.”

The brief post, seen by thousands, captures the family’s apparent desperation and their belief that their brother requires intervention he may be unable or unwilling to seek himself.

The controversy has now taken on political dimensions. Ms. Osawuru is not simply a private citizen — she serves as a member of the Edo State House of Assembly, representing Egor constituency. This position has made her conduct a matter of potential public concern beyond the personal realm.

In response to the viral incidents, the Edo State House of Assembly has summoned Ms. Osawuru to appear before its committee to address what it termed her “viral conduct.” This legislative action suggests the matter has reached a threshold where her behavior is being viewed as potentially incompatible with her role as an elected official.

As this story continues to develop, numerous questions remain unanswered. Ms. Osawuru has not yet publicly responded to the specific allegations contained in the police petition. The Inspector General of Police’s office has not commented on whether it will launch a formal investigation.

2Face Idibia himself, despite his brief appearance during the livestream incident, has not issued any comprehensive public statement addressing the allegations or the state of his personal affairs.

Meanwhile, fans of the artist — whose hits like “African Queen” made him a continental superstar — have expressed shock and concern across social media platforms, with many calling for privacy while others demand accountability and transparency given the public nature of recent events.

Legal experts suggest that if the police determine sufficient grounds exist, a formal investigation could examine the financial records in question, interview witnesses to the alleged assaults, and investigate the marital status claims. Such an investigation could potentially result in criminal charges if evidence supports the allegations.

For now, Nigeria watches and waits as one of its most beloved musical icons finds himself at the center of a scandal that encompasses allegations of domestic violence, financial manipulation, and potential criminal conduct — a fall from grace that few could have anticipated for the man whose music once soundtracked romance across the African continent.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

The family of Nigerian music legend 2Face Idibia has formally petitioned police against Natasha Osawuru, an Edo State lawmaker who presents herself as his wife, accusing her of assault, unauthorized withdrawal of funds from his accounts, withholding his passport to prevent business travel, and substance abuse-related violence.

Critically, the petition alleges bigamy, as 2Face reportedly has not finalized his divorce from estranged wife Annie Macauley Idibia. The scandal erupted publicly when a livestream ended in physical altercation between the couple, prompting the singer’s brother to plead “allow us to save you” and the Edo State House of Assembly to summon Osawuru over her conduct.

What began as a private relationship crisis has now become a legal, political, and public spectacle threatening both the artist’s safety and career, with police investigation pending.

A beloved music icon appears trapped in an allegedly abusive and legally questionable relationship, with his family desperately seeking official intervention to protect his wellbeing, finances, and reputation.
