Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been crowned the 2025 CAF Women’s National Team of the Year, a recognition that caps an extraordinary 12 months defined by dominance, determination, and yet another historic triumph on the African stage.

The award was presented on Wednesday, November 19, during the 2025 CAF Awards ceremony at the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in Rabat, Morocco.

Super Falcons of Nigeria

This honour follows a remarkable year in which the Super Falcons clinched their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) trophy, reinforcing their reputation as the most successful women’s national team on the continent.

Led by head coach Justin Madugu, the team powered through the group stage with decisive victories over Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria, all without conceding a single goal. Their strong form continued into the knockout rounds, where they swept Zambia aside with a 5–0 win in the quarterfinals and edged South Africa 2–1 in a tense semifinal, setting up a highly anticipated final against hosts Morocco.

The final delivered one of the tournament’s most dramatic moments. After falling 2–0 behind in the opening 24 minutes, the Super Falcons staged a dramatic second-half turnaround, netting three goals in 24 minutes to seal the title in unforgettable fashion.

Super Falcons

Their outstanding year also brought individual honours. Captain Rasheedat Ajibade earned a nomination for CAF Women’s Player of the Year, while goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie made the shortlist for Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year.

With another record-setting season, the Super Falcons continue to inspire young female athletes across Africa and strengthen Nigeria’s legacy as a leading force in women’s football.

What you should know

The Super Falcons’ recognition as the 2025 CAF Women’s National Team of the Year reflects their exceptional performance throughout the WAFCON campaign, where they claimed a record 10th title.

Their dramatic comeback victory in the final and several individual award nominations highlight the team’s enduring excellence and influence in African women’s football.
