Activist Deji Adeyanju Accuses Police PRO of Suppressing Free Speech, Vows Legal Action

Human rights activist Deji Adeyanju has accused the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Muyiwa Adejobi, of abusing his office by suppressing free speech and unlawfully detaining critics of the police.

In a viral video on Wednesday, Adeyanju alleged that Adejobi has transformed his role into a tool for intimidation rather than public relations.

“Nigerians must be mindful of who Muyiwa Adejobi is. He believes the Police PRO’s job is about arresting people who criticize the police and calling for accountability,” Adeyanju stated.

He further alleged that Adejobi ordered the detention of a client from his legal firm over a social media post concerning the abduction of the wife of former Assistant Inspector General of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, in Ogun State on January 16.

“Our client has been in custody for 10 days on Adejobi’s instruction. His parents, who went to plead for his release, were humiliated, and three officers who allowed them access to their son were also detained on Adejobi’s orders,” he claimed.

Expressing outrage, Adeyanju criticized Adejobi’s conduct, comparing it to a street fight in Oshodi rather than professional policing.

He vowed to take legal action against Adejobi to deter other police officers from victimizing citizens and suppressing their rights.

Adeyanju also warned the Nigerian Police Cybercrime Centre against exceeding its mandate, emphasizing that its role is to tackle internet fraud, not silence government critics.

Calling for public resistance, Adeyanju urged citizens to stand against individuals like Adejobi, warning that failure to do so could endanger democracy.

Attempts to get Adejobi’s response were unsuccessful, as he did not answer calls or respond to messages at the time of reporting.
