The Senate has officially acknowledged the defection of Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This move follows his recent resignation from the opposition party.

Nwoko explained that the increasing instability and internal conflicts within the PDP were jeopardizing his political future, compelling him to shift his allegiance to the ruling party.

His defection was met with loud cheers as he was escorted to the majority side of the Senate.

In addition to his party switch, Senator Nwoko, in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, called for the establishment of an ad hoc committee to probe the ongoing crisis within the PDP. He stressed the importance of having a robust opposition to ensure a balanced and healthy democratic process in Nigeria.
