Paris Saint-Germain booked their place in the Club World Cup semi-finals with a dramatic 2-0 win over Bayern Munich on Saturday, despite being reduced to nine men late in the match.

Goals from Desire Doue and substitute Ousmane Dembele saw the French champions edge a fiercely contested quarter-final at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

PSG, already crowned treble winners this season, defied the odds after Willian Pacho and Lucas Hernandez were both sent off in the final minutes. But it was the resilience and sharp attacking edge of Luis Enrique’s men that ultimately broke Bayern’s dominance, ending the German side’s four-match winning streak against the Parisians.

The night began with an emotional tribute, a minute of silence in memory of Liverpool and Portugal star Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, whose tragic deaths earlier in the week shook the football world. The moment carried extra weight for PSG, with five Portuguese players in their squad.

Musiala’s Injury, Neuer’s Heroics

Bayern suffered a major blow just before halftime when Jamal Musiala sustained a gruesome ankle injury in a collision with Gianluigi Donnarumma, casting a shadow over what had been a high-octane contest. The match was brimming with chances, as Donnarumma and his veteran counterpart Manuel Neuer pulled off stunning saves to keep the game goalless through the first hour.

PSG’s Georgian winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, making his mark early, came close several times, while Michael Olise and Harry Kane threatened at the other end. A disallowed goal from Dayot Upamecano and a near miss by Kane highlighted Bayern’s attacking intent.

Doue Breaks the Deadlock

With the game nearing extra time, substitute Dembele nearly capitalized on a rare Neuer error but saw his effort roll just wide. Moments later, PSG punished Bayern’s sloppy play when Kane lost possession and the ball fell to 20-year-old Doue. The young forward unleashed a low drive past Neuer in the 82nd minute to give PSG a crucial lead.

Chaos in the Final Minutes

PSG’s path to victory turned treacherous as Pacho received a straight red for a high challenge on Leon Goretzka just a minute later. Harry Kane had the ball in the net soon after, but his header was ruled out for offside. Tensions flared when Hernandez, another PSG substitute, was sent off for elbowing Kingsley Coman in stoppage time, reducing the French side to nine men.

Even so, PSG didn’t just hold on—they struck again. In a swift counter, Achraf Hakimi’s run set up Dembele, who coolly slotted home the second in the dying seconds. Dembele celebrated by mimicking Diogo Jota’s famous video game gesture, paying tribute to the fallen forward.
