A crucial caucus meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is underway at the Bauchi State Government Lodge in Abuja following the unexpected closure of the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

Originally scheduled to hold at 7 pm, the meeting was rescheduled and relocated after the FCTA sealed the PDP headquarters on Monday due to unpaid ground rent and tenancy fees.

Wadata Plaza’s closure disrupted plans for the Board of Trustees (BOT) meeting, which was to precede the ongoing caucus session. The BOT gathering could not proceed due to the lack of access to the premises.

The PDP caucus consists of serving governors, National Assembly members, BOT members, as well as former presidents and vice presidents. Although the caucus meeting is being held behind closed doors, insiders disclosed that discussions are centered on preparations for the upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, May 27.

Sources also indicated that the sealing of the secretariat would likely feature prominently in the talks, as members consider the legal and political implications of the development.

What you should know
The PDP caucus is holding an emergency meeting in Abuja after the party’s national secretariat was sealed by the FCTA over unpaid rent. This action has disrupted scheduled BOT activities and raised concerns about its effect on the party’s NEC meeting set for May 27.
