The Federal Government has reiterated its dedication to advancing internal security and grassroots services through the commissioning of a cutting-edge smart police station in Katampe, Abuja.
Constructed by the Nigeria Police Trust Fund and officially transferred to the Nigeria Police Force on Wednesday, the facility is anticipated to enhance policing effectiveness and deepen engagement between law enforcement and communities in the FCT.
Plans are also underway to roll out similar facilities in Kogi, Enugu, and additional regions across the country.
Representing the Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Gaidam, the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Anuma Nla, praised the project as a strong indication of the administration’s resolve to ensure public order and safety at the community level.
He urged officers stationed at the new facility to exemplify professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to human rights while delivering timely and accountable policing services.
Nla reaffirmed the Federal Government’s ongoing effort to build the Nigeria Police Force’s capacity under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Stressing the relevance of technology in modern policing, he encouraged the Inspector General of Police to assign digitally proficient personnel to the smart station.
During the event, Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Mohammed Sheidu, described the station as a “mission statement for nation-building.” He outlined its features, which include a modern infrastructure, secured fencing, surveillance systems, uninterrupted water supply via overhead tanks, and a 30-kilowatt solar power system in partnership with the Rural Electrification Agency.
He also disclosed the launch of a new housing initiative—a six-unit rank-and-file quarters—to improve officer welfare.
Sheidu emphasized that officers must preserve the facility with professionalism and accountability, reflecting the value of public investment.
