The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken into custody a social media content creator, Muhammed Kabir Sa’ad, over an alleged act of currency abuse in a video that surfaced online.

As per a statement shared by the Commission on Monday via its official X account, Sa’ad was arrested by operatives from the Kaduna Zonal Directorate following the viral spread of a video in which he provocatively challenged EFCC officials to apprehend him.

“Sa’ad made a video of himself on his TikTok and Instagram accounts (@youngcee0066), where he was seen throwing naira notes on the floor, deliberately stepping on them, and daring EFCC officers in Hausa language to arrest him if they could.

“He was subsequently picked up in the Tudun Wada area of Kaduna State through surveillance and conveyed to the Kaduna Zonal Directorate of the Commission for interrogation,” the statement said.

The EFCC noted that Sa’ad would face prosecution in court once investigations are finalized.

What you should know
The arrest of Muhammed Kabir Sa’ad in 2025 highlights the EFCC’s increasingly firm stance against the abuse of the naira.

Unlike previous years, particularly in 2024 when similar cases often went without swift punitive action, this incident shows a more proactive enforcement strategy.

Sa’ad’s arrest followed his public challenge to the EFCC, a bold move that not only drew attention but seemingly prompted the agency to act promptly.

This reflects a broader trend of holding social media influencers accountable for their online conduct, particularly when it involves actions considered illegal or disrespectful to national symbols.
