Popular Nigerian comedian turned preacher, Oluwatoyin Bayegun, popularly known as Woli Arole, has encouraged Nigerians to celebrate their Nigerian citizenship with the same excitement as they do when acquiring foreign citizenship.
Taking to his Instagram page on Friday, Arole questioned why Nigerians joyfully announce their UK, Canadian, or U.S. citizenship but rarely acknowledge their Nigerian identity with the same enthusiasm. In a lighthearted tone, he invited his followers to celebrate his Nigerian citizenship with him, writing, “Why do people celebrate citizenship of UK, Canada and America and me wey I dey Naija never celebrate my own?”
His post comes just weeks after the comedian lost his father, a loss he previously shared with his followers.
Arole’s message underscores the need for national pride, as many Nigerians continue to seek greener pastures abroad, often celebrating their new nationalities while neglecting their home country.
