The United States Government has praised the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) for its strong state of preparedness ahead of the arrival of AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters, highlighting the readiness of selected NAF facilities designated to host and maintain the aircraft.

The commendation was delivered during a three-day strategic meeting between a US delegation from PMA-276, headed by Robert Galan, and top NAF officials at the Headquarters Nigerian Air Force in Abuja.

In a statement issued by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the discussions centered on a detailed implementation and support framework aimed at ensuring smooth induction, long-term maintenance, and optimal operational performance of the incoming helicopters.

The Chief of the Air Staff, Sunday Kelvin Aneke, was represented at the engagement by the Chief of Policy and Plans, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Abdullahi. He reiterated the Air Force’s resolve to synchronise all operational, technical, and logistical elements to ensure the aircraft become fully mission-ready immediately upon delivery.

Strengthening Defence Ties

According to the statement, the engagement highlights the continued progress in defence collaboration between Nigeria and the United States, built on mutual confidence, shared security priorities, and institutional professionalism.

The acknowledgment from the US delegation reflects global recognition of the Nigerian Air Force’s careful planning, strategic direction, and structured modernisation efforts under the current leadership of the Chief of the Air Staff.

Enhancing National Security Capacity

Beyond acquiring new aircraft, the partnership is expected to significantly enhance Nigeria’s air combat capability, bolster the country’s broader security framework, and support long-term national stability and development goals.

The planned integration of the AH-1Z Viper helicopters represents a major step in strengthening operational effectiveness and reinforcing Nigeria’s capacity to respond to evolving security challenges.
