Tensions in the Middle East reached new heights early Monday following a fresh wave of missile exchanges between Israel and Iran, as US Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, confirmed that the US embassy’s branch in Tel Aviv sustained minor damage.

Though the damage was caused by concussions from nearby Iranian missile impacts, Huckabee reported that no American personnel were harmed in the incident.

The announcement came amid a broader military escalation that has seen both nations strike targets within each other’s borders. In the latest salvo, Iran launched a flurry of missiles at Israeli cities, including Tel Aviv, in retaliation for an Israeli strike on its territory days earlier that reportedly targeted sensitive military installations and nuclear infrastructure. The intensifying exchange of fire has stirred fears of a prolonged regional conflict.

Images captured by AFP from Tel Aviv revealed severe destruction in parts of the city, with buildings visibly gutted by the impact. Israel’s military had earlier sounded alarms, urging residents to seek immediate shelter as Iranian projectiles approached.

“Some minor damage from concussions of Iranian missile hits near Embassy Branch in @TelAviv but no injuries to US personnel,” Huckabee posted on X (formerly Twitter), assuring that embassy staff were unharmed.

Due to the heightened state of alert, the US embassy in Jerusalem remained closed on Monday. The ambassador noted that shelter-in-place orders were still in effect, underscoring the seriousness of the threat posed by ongoing hostilities.

This latest round of attacks follows years of hostile rhetoric, cyber warfare, and indirect confrontations through proxy forces between the two regional powers. However, Israel’s unprecedented assault deep within Iran last week has seemingly transformed simmering tensions into overt confrontation. Israeli officials claim their latest strikes targeted Iran’s nuclear and military capabilities, allegedly resulting in the deaths of high-ranking military officials and top nuclear scientists.

While Israel maintains that these operations are crucial to halting Iran’s nuclear ambitions, the potential for uncontrolled escalation remains high. Amid the turmoil, a senior US official revealed that President Donald Trump intervened behind the scenes to deter Israel from executing a plan to assassinate Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei—a move that could have triggered a full-scale war.

Trump has continued to walk a fine diplomatic line, urging the two adversaries to negotiate peace while acknowledging the reality of armed conflict. “Sometimes they have to fight it out,” he remarked to reporters Sunday, adding that he remains hopeful for a future agreement.

As the international community watches closely, the region braces for what could become one of the most dangerous military escalations in decades, with diplomatic efforts scrambling to prevent further deterioration.
