Ukrainian officials have landed in the United States to begin discussions with the administration of President Donald Trump aimed at bringing an end to nearly four years of conflict with Russia, according to a member of the delegation who confirmed the development on Saturday.
The team is scheduled to hold talks with Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, alongside the president’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner.
The meetings are set to take place in Miami and come just days before the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, a milestone that has sharpened diplomatic urgency.
Ukrainian authorities are pressing for clear assurances on long-term security commitments from their international partners as part of any potential settlement.
“Arrived in the United States. Together with (security chief) Rustem Umerov and (negotiator) David Arakhamia, we will have an important conversation with our American partners regarding the details of the peace agreement,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s top aide, Kyrylo Budanov, said on social media. “A joint meeting with Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, and (US Army Secretary) Daniel Driscoll is planned.”
President Trump has repeatedly called for an end to what remains Europe’s most devastating war since World War Two, though his efforts have yet to produce a decisive breakthrough.
He has voiced dissatisfaction with both Moscow and Kyiv, while also urging Ukraine to consider peace proposals that officials in Kyiv have described as resembling surrender.
Ukraine’s ambassador in Washington indicated earlier that the talks would centre on security guarantees and rebuilding efforts once the war ends. Zelensky added on Friday that he was optimistic about signing agreements with the United States in the coming week.
