Tyler Perry, one of Hollywood’s most prolific and commercially successful filmmakers, is facing fresh legal trouble as actor Mario Rodriguez has filed a lawsuit alleging sexual assault and unwanted sexual advances during the production of the 2016 comedy “Boo! A Madea Halloween.”

The lawsuit, which seeks $77 million in damages, paints a disturbing picture of alleged misconduct on set. According to court documents, Rodriguez claims that Perry engaged in a pattern of inappropriate behavior, with the suit asserting that “Mr. Perry would do whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted, to whomever he wanted, no matter how many times he was rejected.”

The allegations represent a serious challenge to Perry’s carefully cultivated public image as a family-friendly entertainer and business mogul whose Tyler Perry Studios has become a landmark in Atlanta’s film industry.

Perry’s legal team has moved quickly to push back against the allegations, categorically denying the claims and characterizing the lawsuit as “frivolous.” The dismissive language suggests Perry’s camp intends to mount an aggressive defense against what they appear to view as baseless accusations.

Notably, Rodriguez’s filing indicates this is not the first time Perry has faced such allegations. The phrase “yet again” in the legal complaint suggests a history of similar accusations against the entertainment mogul, though the specifics of previous cases were not immediately detailed in available court documents.

The $77 million figure represents a substantial claim that likely encompasses punitive damages beyond simple compensation, indicating that Rodriguez and his legal team view the alleged conduct as particularly egregious and worthy of a significant financial penalty.

As the case proceeds through the courts, both sides will likely engage in discovery processes that could bring additional details to light. For Perry, the lawsuit arrives at a time when his entertainment empire continues to expand, making the timing and potential reputational impact particularly significant.

Neither party has made extensive public statements beyond the initial legal filings, and it remains unclear when the case might proceed to trial or whether settlement negotiations could resolve the matter outside of court.
