Trump Dismisses Iran’s Missile Strike as ‘Weak,’ Urges Peace After US Bombing of Nuclear Sites

President Donald Trump on Monday downplayed Iran’s missile attack on a US military base in Qatar, describing the retaliation as “very weak” and claiming it had been anticipated by the American military.

He said the United States had effectively neutralized the threat, framing Iran’s response as more symbolic than strategic, and used the moment to call for de-escalation and peace in the Middle East.

The US president’s comments followed Tehran’s missile launch at the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, a strike Iran described as retribution for the US bombing of three of its nuclear facilities over the weekend. While tensions had escalated significantly after the American assault, Trump indicated that Iran’s missile attack was telegraphed in advance, allowing US personnel to take precautionary measures.

“Iran has officially responded to our Obliteration of their Nuclear Facilities with a very weak response, which we expected, and have very effectively countered,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform. He added, “I want to thank Iran for giving us early notice, which made it possible for no lives to be lost, and nobody to be injured.”

Qatar

The Iranian operation, named Annunciation of Victory by its Revolutionary Guard Corps, reportedly involved six missiles aimed at the US military installation. However, Qatar’s Defense Ministry confirmed that the missiles were intercepted before causing damage or casualties, and denounced the strike as a “flagrant violation.”

Trump, who has maintained a strong stance on nuclear non-proliferation, especially with Iran, expressed hope that both sides would now pull back from further confrontation. “Perhaps Iran can now proceed to Peace and Harmony in the Region, and I will enthusiastically encourage Israel to do the same,” he posted. According to Trump, Iran has “gotten it all out of their ‘system,’ and there will, hopefully, be no further HATE.”

The initial US attacks on Iran’s nuclear sites were justified by Trump as a preventive strike to eliminate what he called a growing existential threat. The assault utilized advanced bunker-busting bombs, which, according to the president, “obliterated” Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.

While international observers continue to assess the full impact of those bombings, Trump appears eager to shift the focus toward a peaceful resolution. His statement emphasized restraint, even as tensions remain high between Israel and Iran — the two principal actors in the ongoing conflict that prompted US involvement.

Trump’s remarks mark a notable shift in tone from the aggressive rhetoric that accompanied the initial US action, suggesting a possible diplomatic opening if both Iran and Israel agree to pause hostilities. However, no official statement from Tehran has indicated a willingness to de-escalate further, and analysts warn that regional stability remains fragile.

What you should know
