Troops conducting security operations in Kebbi State have reportedly killed no fewer than 80 armed bandits who attempted to infiltrate the state from the Zamfara border.

According to a statement released on Sunday by Abdullahi Idris Zuru, Special Adviser to the Governor on Communication and Strategy, the successful operation forms part of the Kebbi State Government’s ongoing efforts to reinforce security across border communities.

Zuru explained that the operation in Ngaski Local Government Area was made possible through the strategic deployment of well-armed troops along Kebbi’s borders with Sokoto, Zamfara, and Niger states, following directives from Governor Nasir Idris.

He revealed that the Governor had earlier called for additional military personnel to confront rising security challenges, a move that has resulted in continuous operations effectively preventing infiltration attempts by armed groups.

Providing further details, Zuru said actionable intelligence enabled troops to take strategic positions around Makurdi village, leading to a successful clash with heavily armed bandits trying to cross from Niger State between Friday night and Saturday morning.

Abdulrahaman Usman, the state’s Director of Security, confirmed that around 80 bandits were neutralised during the confrontation. He added that several motorcycles were seized, and two kidnapped victims were rescued unharmed.

The statement also highlighted the strong collaboration between the Kebbi State Government and security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, which has played a key role in achieving these recent operational successes. Governor Idris has reportedly provided extensive logistical support—including 100 Hilux vehicles and 5,000 motorcycles—to boost troop mobility and rapid response capacity.

In reaction to the development, the Emir of Yauri, Dr. Zayyanu Muhammad, praised the troops for their bravery and commended Governor Idris for his consistent dedication to protecting lives and property across the state.

What You Should Know

The decisive military operation in Kebbi State reflects a broader strategy by Governor Nasir Idris to strengthen border security and counter persistent threats from bandits operating across northwestern Nigeria.

With over 80 insurgents neutralised, the government’s investment in logistics and intelligence has significantly bolstered the state’s defence efforts.
