President Bola Tinubu has returned to Abuja after completing a two-week diplomatic engagement that took him to Japan and Brazil.
The president’s aircraft touched down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja at about 1:20 am on Thursday. He was received by top-ranking government officials, including the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila; Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; as well as several ministers and special advisers.
Tinubu had departed Abuja on Friday, August 15, 2025, with a brief stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, before proceeding to Japan. While in Yokohama, Japan, the Nigerian leader participated in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), held between August 20 and 22.
During his stay, he engaged in bilateral discussions and also held meetings with the chief executive officers of Japanese firms that have existing or planned investments in Nigeria.


After his engagements in Japan, the president traveled to Brasília, Brazil, on a state visit at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, where he was accorded full military honors.
