President Bola Tinubu has returned to Abuja following a two-day visit to the Vatican City in Rome, where he attended the inauguration mass of the 267th Bishop of Rome, His Holiness, Pope Leo XIV.
Touching down at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at approximately 6:50 pm, Tinubu was received by key government officials, including Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje; and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
During his visit, Tinubu joined global leaders at the solemn papal inauguration and met briefly with Pope Leo XIV, sharing a handshake and conversation. He also held discussions with members of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, led by Archbishop Lucius Ugorji of Owerri.
Reflecting on the occasion, Tinubu described it as a “historic moment” and expressed pride in representing Nigeria during the Pope’s installation. He emphasized the importance of leveraging Nigeria’s religious and cultural diversity as a unifying force rather than a source of division.
