President Bola Tinubu has reportedly removed Kayode Egbetokun from his position as Inspector General of Police.
According to Sahara Reporters, the decision was confirmed on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, as senior police officers and sources within the Police Service Commission disclosed that the President directed Egbetokun to prepare his handover notes after a meeting at the Presidential Villa.
He is expected to formally hand over to Tunji Disu, who currently serves as Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex in Alagbon, Lagos.
Sources said the outgoing police chief had been informed to step aside and complete the transition process.
They added that the President asked him to leave office and focus on his health, as he is said to be dealing with kidney-related medical issues.
The Police Service Commission is yet to confirm this development.
