President Bola Tinubu has conferred national honours on the Super Falcons and their entire coaching staff in recognition of their victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) held in Morocco.
At a reception hosted at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the President bestowed the title of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on each of the 24 players and the 11-man technical crew. He also directed that each member of the team be allocated a three-bedroom apartment at the Renewed Hope Estate in Abuja.
In addition to the national honours and housing, President Tinubu approved a generous cash award—each player will receive the naira equivalent of $100,000, while each member of the technical team will be given $50,000.
Speaking during the ceremony, the President said, “I hereby confer on the players, the 11-man technical team with national honours of the Officer of the Order of the Niger. Additionally, I have directed the allocation of three-bedroom apartments in the Renewed Hope Housing Scheme. Then there is the cash award of the naira equivalent of $100,000 US dollars for each of the 24 players and the naira equivalent of $50,000 to the 11-man technical crew.”
In a lighter moment, Tinubu admitted he had avoided watching the final live, saying he didn’t want to risk high blood pressure due to the intensity of the match.
The Nigerian Governors Forum, represented by its Chairman and Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRasaq, also contributed to the celebrations with an additional ₦10 million cash gift for each player.
Earlier that day, the President and First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu received the triumphant Super Falcons at the Villa. The players and officials arrived at the forecourt of Aso Rock at approximately 4:36 p.m., where they were welcomed by the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.
In a post-match video call on Saturday night, Tinubu had praised the team for their historic 3-2 comeback win over hosts Morocco, highlighting the exceptional performance of team captain and tournament MVP Rasheedat Ajibade.
This victory marks the Super Falcons’ 10th WAFCON title, having previously won in 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2024, cementing their legacy as the most successful women’s football team on the African continent.
