Some activists have called on President Bola Tinubu to remove Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo as Nigeria’s Minister of Interior over allegations surrounding his academic and service records.
According to Trust TV, the protest took place in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, on Friday, February 6, 2026.
During the protest, the group urged Tunji-Ojo to resign from office, asking him to follow the example of former Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun and former Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, by stepping down.
The protesters, who described themselves as civil society members, claimed that the minister’s certificate is fake and that he is not qualified to hold public office.
They alleged that Tunji-Ojo’s National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate, which he submitted when he was nominated and confirmed as a minister by the All Progressives Congress (APC) government, contains irregularities or may have been forged.
The group also criticised what they described as the Federal Government’s silence on the matter, saying it showed tolerance for corruption.
They further stated that Tunji-Ojo’s continued stay in office is a great disservice to the country, “which has many qualified citizens of competence and integrity, to have at the head of a ministry meant to drive innovation.”
Meanwhile, the National Youth Service Corps had earlier confirmed the authenticity of Tunji-Ojo’s certificate in 2023, during his screening by the Nigerian Senate.
However, a major media organisation later reported concerns about the certificate presented by the former House of Representatives member.
Tunji-Ojo claimed that he participated in the NYSC programme between November 2019 and November 2020. But a review of his certificate showed that it was issued in February and signed by Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, who only became the Director-General of NYSC in January.
This raised questions because the NYSC normally issues certificates immediately after service and does not reprint lost or damaged ones.
In response to media inquiries, the NYSC said the certificate presented by Tunji-Ojo is genuine.
The agency explained that he was first mobilised in 2006 but “absconded from the service.”
It added that he later returned in 2018, was remobilised in 2019, and was deployed to the Federal Capital Territory Administration in Garki, Abuja, as his place of primary assignment.
The controversy has continued to generate public debate, as pressure mounts on President Tinubu to act on the allegations and growing public concerns.
