Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has declared Tuesday, July 28, 2026, a work-free day for public servants across the state to enable them to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.

The directive applies to state civil servants, local government workers, employees of tertiary institutions and other categories of public sector workers.

The decision was announced in a circular issued by the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, according to a statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.

The state government said the work-free day was approved to give public servants enough time to visit designated PVC collection centres and obtain their voter cards.

According to the circular, the initiative is aimed at helping workers fulfil their civic responsibilities ahead of the governorship election and future elections in the state.

The government urged all affected workers to make good use of the opportunity by collecting their PVCs without delay.

Medical personnel, security operatives and other workers providing essential services are exempted from the directive.

However, the government advised their employers to make suitable internal arrangements to allow eligible staff members collect their PVCs without affecting the delivery of critical services.

It added that the exemption was necessary to ensure that essential public services continue without interruption.

Governor Adeleke also encouraged eligible voters in the informal and private sectors to take advantage of the ongoing PVC collection exercise.

He stressed that having a PVC is essential for participating in the electoral process.

“I encourage all registered voters to reach all the collection points without delay. Your vote is your power. Your voters card is your licence to the ballot paper and by extension to the ballot box,” Adeleke said.
