Speaker Abbas Mourns Sudden Death of Top Aide

The House of Representatives is in mourning following the unexpected death of Dr. Chamberlain Nnamdi Dunkwu, Deputy Chief of Staff (Legislative) to Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.

Dr. Dunkwu reportedly passed away just hours after joining colleagues to break the Ramadan fast on Friday evening, leaving friends and associates in shock.

Speaker Abbas described the loss as devastating, noting that Dr. Dunkwu had appeared healthy and lively during the Iftar gathering.

In a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, Abbas mourned the passing of his trusted aide, calling him a dependable and committed ally who served diligently until his last breath.

Dr. Dunkwu, who hailed from Uteh Okpu community in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State, also served as President of the Nigerian Aquatics Federation. He would have turned 55 on March 21.

The Speaker emphasised that his death is a significant loss not only to his office but also to family, friends, and colleagues who worked closely with him.

“This is indeed a moment of grief for me, my colleagues, his family and the staff in my office as we mourn the death of this wonderful human being. This is one death too many. But we find solace in the fact that he lived a life of service to humanity and his country,” Abbas said.

Deputy Chief of Staff (Legislative) to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, Dr. Chamberlain Nnamdi Dunkwu.

Dr. Dunkwu was appointed Deputy Chief of Staff (Legislative) on June 26, 2023, having previously served as Special Adviser on Members’ Affairs to the Speaker and Chief of Staff to Femi Gbajabiamila.

A member of the All Progressives Congress and a Knight of the Anglican Communion in the Asaba Diocese, his sudden passing has left colleagues and associates in deep mourning.
