Vice-President Kashim Shettima on Thursday departed Abuja for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to represent President Bola Tinubu at the 2026 African Union (AU) Summit.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), this year’s summit is themed: “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063.”

Kashim Shettima departs Abuja for AU summit in Ethiopia

The summit will centre on advancing Africa’s commitments to sustainable water resource management, improved sanitation systems, and broader development objectives outlined in the AU’s Agenda 2063 blueprint.

During his stay in Addis Ababa, Shettima will participate in the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of AU Heads of State and Government alongside other African leaders.

He is also scheduled to attend the 30th General Assembly taking place on February 14 and 15.

In addition to plenary sessions, the vice-president will take part in high-level side events and hold bilateral meetings with political and business leaders. The engagements are aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic ties, economic cooperation, and strategic partnerships across the continent.

Kashim Shettima departs Abuja for AU summit in Ethiopia

Shettima is being accompanied by cabinet ministers and other senior government officials. He is expected to return to Nigeria at the conclusion of his official engagements in Addis Ababa.
