Sergio Busquets Announces Retirement At End Of MLS Season

Inter Miami midfielder and former Barcelona and Spain star Sergio Busquets has confirmed he will retire from professional football at the conclusion of the 2025 Major League Soccer campaign.

The 37-year-old, revered for his elegance and composure on the ball, made the announcement Thursday through a video message on Instagram. “These will be my last months on the pitch. I’m retiring very happy, proud, fulfilled, and above all grateful,” he said. “A heartfelt thank you to everyone and to football for everything. You will always be a part of this beautiful story.”

Busquets enjoyed a glittering career, winning nine La Liga titles and three Champions League crowns with Barcelona. On the international stage, he was a vital part of Spain’s golden era, featuring in their 2010 World Cup triumph and the 2012 European Championship victory, amassing 143 caps before retiring from international duty after the 2022 World Cup.

In 2023, he joined Inter Miami in the United States, linking up with long-time teammate Lionel Messi to bring global spotlight to Major League Soccer.
