The Nigerian Senate reconvened on Tuesday after a 10-week recess, with Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin presiding over proceedings in the absence of Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Among those in attendance was the embattled Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who returned to the chamber following a six-month suspension. Her reappearance drew attention as plenary resumed with a strong turnout of lawmakers, marking a full return to legislative activities.

In a symbolic gesture of international solidarity, some senators attended the session wearing Palestinian-themed attire to express support for a free Palestine.
The Senate and House of Representatives had embarked on their annual recess on July 24, with committees advised to continue oversight and reporting duties during the break. Initially slated to last until September 23, 2025, the resumption was later postponed by two weeks to October 7.

The annual recess, a regular feature of the legislative calendar, allows lawmakers to attend to constituency matters and personal engagements while maintaining ongoing committee functions.
